Pen, Ink & Gold Metal Leaf on Watercolour Paper
This piece reflects my journey, as I discovered a different form of strength: unravelling the paradox of displaying unbreakable strength while internally grappling with the weight of life's chaos. The pen-and-ink work depicts the careful construction of our outer personas, while the gold metal leaf symbolises the burdens we conceal.
Throughout my adult life, I prided myself on my resilience, and when confronting life's challenges, I dive in head first. This self-perception of being untouchable became a mask, concealing the toll of absorbing life's adversities. I felt caged. I was suffocating. I was no longer untouchable. I was drowning. I was fading.
A piece of wisdom from a dear friend: "Do not wait until you are over your threshold; release your burdens, spill them out. Share them with me, your family, or anyone you trust. You don't have to carry it alone. Leaning on someone does not mean you are weak. It is also a form of strength." It's a battle out there, and this is a reminder to myself every day.
Embracing our vulnerabilities unearths a deeper form of strength - compassionate, interconnected, and profoundly human. The power of vulnerability inspires courage and resilience towards another day.
